Need dryer repair near you? SteelPeak Appliance Repair fixes gas and electric dryers in homes across Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita.

When a dryer runs but won't heat, or takes two cycles to dry a load, the cause is usually a heating part, a safety fuse or blocked airflow. Our technician finds which one, explains your options, and gives you the price before any repair work starts.

COMMON PROBLEMS

What your dryer is telling you

Common dryer problems and what usually causes them. The diagnostic visit tells you which one it is.

Runs but doesn't heat.

Electric dryers: often a heating element, thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat, or one tripped half of the double breaker. Gas dryers: often the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils. A blown thermal fuse usually means airflow is restricted, so the vent path matters too.

Takes too long, clothes still damp.

Most often restricted airflow: a full lint screen, a crushed or clogged vent duct, or an outside flap that won't open. A weak heating part, or a moisture sensor coated with dryer-sheet residue, can do it too.

Check first: clean the lint screen and make sure the outside vent flap opens while the dryer runs.

Won't start or won't tumble.

A door switch, start switch or thermal fuse can stop it from starting. If the motor hums but the drum doesn't turn, the drive belt has often broken.

Squealing, thumping or grinding.

Usually worn drum rollers, an idler pulley, drum glides or a rear bearing.

Hot to the touch or a burning smell.

Stop using it and unplug it. Overheating usually comes from blocked airflow or a failed cycling thermostat.

Safety: If you smell gas, stop: don't light or start the appliance or work any switch or plug, leave the home and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
