Need refrigerator repair or fridge repair near you? SteelPeak Appliance Repair fixes refrigerators in homes across Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita, from everyday freestanding models to built-in units.

A refrigerator that stops cooling puts everything inside it on a clock. Our technician finds the actual cause (a fan, a defrost part, a control board or a cooling-system fault), explains your options in plain language, and gives you the price before any repair work starts. We work on French-door, side-by-side, top- and bottom-freezer, counter-depth and built-in refrigerators.

COMMON PROBLEMS

What your refrigerator is telling you

Common refrigerator problems and what usually causes them. The diagnostic visit tells you which one it is.

Fridge warm, freezer still cold.

Cold air usually isn't reaching the fresh-food side. Common causes: frost blocking the evaporator because the defrost system failed (heater, sensor or control), an evaporator fan that stopped, or an air damper stuck closed.

Check first: make sure food isn't blocking the vents inside, and that the temperature setting wasn't bumped.

Fridge and freezer both warm.

Usually the cooling system isn't running right: condenser coils packed with dust, a failed condenser fan, a bad start relay or control board, or, less often, a compressor or refrigerant problem.

Check first: listen for a running sound, and make sure air can move freely around the refrigerator.

Water on the floor or under the crisper drawers.

Usually a clogged or frozen defrost drain or a cracked drain pan. On models with ice and water, it can be a leaking inlet valve, supply line or filter housing.

Check first: if water is coming from the supply line behind the fridge, close the water valve until the technician arrives.

Frost or ice building up in the freezer.

The automatic defrost usually isn't working, or warm air is getting in through a torn or loose door gasket.

Check first: make sure the door closes and seals all the way, with nothing holding it open.

Clicking, buzzing or grinding.

A fan blade hitting ice or a worn fan motor usually grinds or buzzes. Clicking every few minutes while the fridge warms up often means the compressor is trying to start and can't. Call before the food spoils.

Ice maker or water dispenser stopped.

Usually a frozen fill tube, a failed water inlet valve, a clogged filter or the ice maker itself.
