Need dishwasher repair near you? SteelPeak Appliance Repair fixes dishwashers across Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley, panel-ready and drawer models included.

A broken dishwasher is more than a sink full of dishes: standing water turns sour and a slow leak can soak the cabinet floor.

COMMON PROBLEMS

What your dishwasher is telling you

What fails, and what to check first.

Won't drain: water left in the bottom after the cycle.

A little water under the filter is normal on many models. Above it, anything between the filter and the sink drain can hold it back: a packed filter, a crushed hose, a blocked disposal or air gap, or a pump jammed by glass.

Check first: with the breaker off, the tub cool and gloves on (the filter area can hold glass), twist out and rinse the filter. Then, hands clear, run the disposal with cold water; if it shares the dishwasher's breaker, switch that on for this step only.

Dishwasher not draining →

Not cleaning: dishes come out dirty or gritty.

Cleaning needs hot water, strong spray and detergent that dissolves; blocked spray-arm holes, a full filter, a weak wash pump or a failed heater undercut it. Hard water adds a white film.

Check first: spin each spray arm by hand, and run the kitchen tap hot before a cycle.

Leaking: water on the floor.

In front of the door: a worn gasket or suds from the wrong detergent. Underneath: the inlet valve, a hose connection or a pump seal.

Check first: switch off the breaker and close the water valve under the sink before you wipe up.

Dishwasher leaking →

Won't start, or the buttons do nothing.

A door latch that doesn't catch, a control lock or delay start left on, a tripped breaker, a thermal fuse or the control board.

Check first: make sure the door clicks shut and look for a lock symbol on the panel.

Dishwasher won't start →

Grinding, humming or rattling.

Grinding: glass or a pit caught in a pump. A hum with no water moving: a jammed pump. Knocking or rattling: a spray arm hitting a tall item or loose on its hub. A low hum while it fills is normal.

PRICING

What dishwasher repair costs

  • Diagnostic visit: $89 for a standard residential dishwasher; $129 for a built-in or commercial unit. A premium brand alone doesn't decide the fee, so tell us the model and we'll confirm which it is.
  • What the technician checks: A test cycle through fill, wash, heat and drain, any stored fault code, the door latch and gasket, the inlet valve and hoses, and the base pan.

BRANDS WE REPAIR

Dishwasher Brands We Service

What to know by brand.

  • Bosch family. Bosch dries by condensation, so damp plastics after a cycle aren't a fault; Thermador and Gaggenau come from the same maker. On Bosch, E24 and E25 point to the drain path and E15 to water in the base pan.
  • Whirlpool family. Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag and Jenn-Air share many designs; many have a filter you twist out and rinse by hand.
  • Samsung, LG and Miele. On Samsung, 5C or 5E is a drain fault and LC a leak; on LG, OE is a drain fault and AE a leak. Miele shows F11 for a drain fault: see Miele dishwasher repair.
