Turntable Not Spinning

• Tray off its hub — The glass tray has a molded center underneath that must sit on the drive coupler, and a tray resting off center rocks or stays put.
• Dirty or damaged roller ring — Food and grease on the roller ring or the cavity floor make the wheels drag, and a cracked wheel can stop the tray.
• Worn or cracked coupler — The plastic coupler on the motor shaft links the motor to the tray, and once its edges round off or crack the motor turns without moving the tray.
• Turntable setting switched off — Some models, many over-the-range ones among them, have a turntable on/off button so large dishes fit, and it can be pressed by accident.
• Failed turntable motor — The small motor under the cavity floor can burn out or seize, leaving the tray still while the microwave heats normally.
• Wiring or control fault — A loose connector or a failed output on the control board can cut power to an otherwise healthy motor.

• The tray stays still while the microwave heats — The motor, the coupler or the turntable setting.
• The tray jerks, clicks or wobbles — A tray off its hub, a dirty roller ring or a worn coupler.
• A grinding sound from under the tray — Debris under the roller ring or a motor with worn gears.
• Food hot on one side and cold on the other — The tray isn't carrying the food through the heating pattern.
• The tray turns clockwise on some runs and counterclockwise on others — That is normal on many models, because the small motor can start in either direction.
