A warm fresh-food section while the freezer still holds its temperature points to that side's evaporator fan, a defrost fault that has iced over the evaporator coil, or a temperature sensor. When both sections drift warm, the condenser comes first: on most full-size built-ins it sits behind the grille at the top of the unit, and a coil matted with dust or a stalled condenser fan leaves the refrigerator unable to shed heat. An ice maker that has stopped, or water on the floor below the unit, leads to the water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube or the ice maker module. Frost on the shelves, or a door that no longer closes flush, comes from a worn gasket, a weak door closer or a drawer left slightly open. If the display shows a service indicator, an alarm or a code, write down exactly what it says before you call. At the visit the technician checks condenser airflow, both fans, the defrost system and the door seals, names the part that failed, explains your options and gives you an upfront quote; no repair starts until you approve it. The diagnostic visit is $89 for a standard residential appliance and $129 for a built-in unit or commercial equipment.
