Commercial Freezer Not Freezing

• Defrost system fault — A failed defrost heater, termination thermostat or defrost control lets ice pack the evaporator coil until cold air can no longer pass through it.
• Evaporator fan motor or fan delay — The fan inside the cabinet pushes air across the coil, and when the motor or the switch that restarts it after a defrost fails, the product warms even though the coil itself stays cold.
• Greasy condenser or failed condenser fan — Heat drawn out of the cabinet has to leave through the condenser, and a coated coil or a stalled fan traps it around the compressor.
• Door gasket or frame heater — A split gasket lets humid kitchen air in, and a dead heater in the door frame lets frost and ice form around the opening until the door can't seal.
• Frozen drain line — When the drain heater fails, defrost water refreezes in the pan and the ice grows until it reaches the coil or the fan blade.
• Compressor or start relay — A compressor that clicks off on its overload or hums without starting can trace back to the start relay, the overload, the motor windings or a condenser too dirty to shed heat.

• Soft ice cream and thawing product — The cabinet has warmed well past 0°F, which points to airflow, the defrost system, the condenser or the compressor.
• Frost packed behind the fan guard inside the cabinet — The defrost cycle isn't clearing the coil, or humid air from a leaking door is frosting it faster than defrost can melt it.
• Ice building up on the cabinet floor — The drain line has frozen or its heater has failed, so defrost water refreezes inside the cabinet.
• Frost and sweating around the door frame — Warm air is leaking past the gasket, or the frame heater has stopped working.
• No air moving inside the cabinet between defrosts — The evaporator fan motor or the switch that restarts it has failed, or ice is holding the blade still. Some models also pause the fans while the door is open, so that alone isn't a fault.
