Wine Cooler Not Turning On

• Tripped breaker or GFCI outlet — The cooler's outlet can be protected by a GFCI outlet elsewhere on the same circuit, and a trip there cuts power with no sign at the cooler. If a breaker or GFCI trips again right after a reset, leave it off, since that can mean a fault in the cooler.
• Loose plug or pinched cord — A built-in cooler pushed back into its opening can work the plug partway out of the outlet or crush the cord behind it, and a crushed or scorched cord should stay off at the breaker until it is replaced.
• Power key or display set to off — Some models have a power key on the panel that has to be held for a few seconds, and a display switched to standby can look like a dead unit, so the owner's manual is worth a look.
• Blown internal fuse or power supply board — A surge or a failing part can blow a fuse or take out the board that feeds the control, leaving the whole cooler dark.
• Control or display board failure — The board that runs the display and switches the cooling can fail on its own, so the cooler stays dark even with power at the cord.
• Power strip or extension cord — A cooler plugged into a power strip, surge protector or extension cord goes dark when that device trips or is switched off, and owner's manuals say to plug it straight into a wall outlet.

• Dark display, and a lamp won't light at the same outlet — The problem is upstream of the cooler: a breaker or GFCI outlet has tripped, or the outlet itself has failed and needs an electrician.
• Outlet works but the cooler stays dark — Power stops inside the cooler, at the cord, an internal fuse, the power supply or the control board.
• Cooler went dark after a power outage or storm — A storm can trip the breaker or a GFCI outlet, so check those first, and if they are fine a surge may have damaged the power supply or the control board.
• Display lights up but nothing runs — Power is reaching the control, so if the cabinet is still warmer than its setting after a few minutes (some controls wait before starting the compressor), the problem is on the cooling side rather than the power side.
• Interior light works but the display is blank — The display board or its connection may have failed, unless the display has been switched to a standby setting.
